Embracing Technological Warmth | Lachesis Supports The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in Comprehensively Advancing Integrated Smart Ward Development
Date:2025/12/17

Guided by intelligence and progressing with purpose. Recently, leveraging practical application scenarios, The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has comprehensively advanced the construction of a full-process, clinician-nurse integrated smart ward by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things. This initiative facilitates seamless data interconnection among healthcare providers, patients, and management, pioneering a "new era" of high-quality hospital development.

Upon admission, patients receive a unique identification wristband. All medical procedures during hospitalization are verified by scanning the wristband with a clinical mobile terminal (NDA) to complete the "Three Checks and Seven Verifications," eliminating human error and ensuring patient safety.

The Bedside Interaction System integrates the nurse station, patient rooms, corridors, restrooms, and other areas, enabling real-time information exchange across these settings. Patients can call for assistance with a single touch, receiving immediate responses from medical staff. This enhances communication efficiency and improves the overall hospitalization experience.

The system automatically retrieves and displays patients' scheduled physical exams, imaging studies, and lab tests on the bedside arm-mounted screen. This allows patients to be informed in advance about treatment plans, examination schedules, and relevant precautions. Patients can also proactively access test reports and billing statements, keeping track of their treatment progress and reducing anxiety.

The bedside screen displays real-time patient information, allergy history, and risk factors, minimizing information gaps. This allows medical staff, patients, and their families to jointly mitigate risks and increases engagement in the treatment process.

Patients can easily complete tasks such as meal ordering, accessing entertainment, and submitting satisfaction surveys via the bedside screen. The screen features automatic shut-off timers and adjusts brightness based on ambient light to avoid disturbing patients' rest at night.

Patients can view personalized health education videos directly from their beds. With one click, educational content can be converted into audio playback, allowing them to listen and relax simultaneously.

Nurses can set the display outside patient rooms to indicate specific care needs, minimizing unnecessary exposure of medical details and ensuring patient privacy is respected.

The Smart Ward Interaction Platform (hereafter referred to as "the Platform") acts as the central data hub for the ward. It provides a clear overview of ward status, nursing tasks, and patient information, enabling proactive risk identification, timely alerts, and early intervention. It streamlines clinical workflows, improves shift handover efficiency, and ensures continuous attention to critical care aspects.

The Platform aggregates and synthesizes data from patient admissions, diagnoses, medications, and treatments. It offers comprehensive, dynamic, and accurate diagnostic data to support mobile ward rounds and shift handovers.

When a patient initiates a call via the bedside system, the nurse station console responds promptly, the main interactive screen pinpoints the calling bed, and nurses' handheld clinical mobile terminals (NDA) provide instant alerts. This multi-point connectivity ensures real-time response, intelligent task allocation, and that no patient request is missed. In emergencies, a one-touch call for backup accurately locates the incident, safeguarding patient safety.

The Platform establishes a closed-loop surgical education process connecting the operating room, nurse station, and ward. Nurses can deliver intelligent, scenario-based education pushes—tailored to patient status, risk assessments, doctor's orders, and test results—optimizing workflows and enhancing patient trust and satisfaction.

Intelligent and Standardized Nursing: Reducing Burden and Boosting Efficiency

Using the clinical mobile terminal, nurses complete the "Three Checks and Seven Verifications" with a single scan throughout a patient's stay. The mobile nursing workstation allows most tasks to be performed at the bedside. Vital signs data is automatically collected and recorded, with nursing documentation synced and uploaded in real time, significantly boosting work efficiency.

During ward rounds, doctors can instantly pull up a patient's 360-degree view on the bedside screen to review medical records, imaging, lab results, and medication history, facilitating informed bedside consultations.

The Platform features an integrated ward quality control center. It tracks and analyzes four key areas: high-risk items, care levels, abnormal vital signs, and verification compliance. It also monitors departmental metrics like operational efficiency, nurse-patient service data, and education delivery. AI-powered multi-dimensional analysis and decision support enable refined departmental management, improving operational efficiency and emergency response, thereby supporting hospital-wide refined management.

In recent years, The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has strived towards building a new benchmark for precision medicine. By championing informatization and implementing comprehensive refined management, it continuously enhances performance management, progressively achieving intelligent administration, service delivery, and clinical care, contributing to the "Healthy China" vision.
